Mitch Nivalis

Mitch Nivalis (they/them) is a photographer and filmmaker with a strong commitment to social change. They founded their company MDP Photography and Video in 2006 and their work contributes to improving visibility and awareness around First Nations, LGBTIQ, multicultural and disability communities; as well as projects around mental health, the environment, education, gender equality and the prevention of violence against women.
Their first feature documentary film, Equal the Contest is currently being released in Australia and has been selected for 7 film festivals in Australia and Internationally so far.
Beyond their work as a photographer and film maker, Mitch is a lived experience speaker and hosts talks and workshops for organisations on the power of images to create change. Mitch currently serves as a CFA volunteer firefighter for their local brigade and volunteers for the Mt Alexander Falcons, bringing footy and connection to women in the justice system.
