Eve Ritchens
2024 WOMAN OF GOLD
Eve Ritchens, Deputy Chair at Be.Bendigo, is passionate about her local community. “Being regional, sometimes it can feel like it is a barrier with select events and study only being offered in cities, a smaller pool of jobs and less businesses than a capital city. But, on the flipside, being regional brings many opportunities and a greater sense of belonging especially in the business community,” she says.
By the age of 30 Eve was on two boards and working in an executive team. She believes being regional helped with these opportunities. Eve is now a representative of our next generation of leaders and advises young people to “Seize opportunities, back yourself, network, be strategic with what business events you go to. Surround yourself with like-minded, positive people”.
Having worked in male dominated workplaces, Eve urges her male colleagues to educate themselves on the experiences the women in their lives might be facing, be aware of these in the workplace and keep gender equity front of mind.
“We can’t be what we can’t see. I’ve been to many leadership events that only have men on the panel. Luckily this is changing. But there is still a way to go.”
