2024 WOMAN OF GOLD
It is amazing that a married lesbian with two kids could be Campus Director for a country university.
In 65 countries, being gay is criminalised (focus is still male oriented). In 12 countries, the death penality can be imposed, with more where silence and inaction condone murder.
I figured out pretty early that I had a good brain, so I worked hard to make the most of my talents and opportunity. I have proven myself through skills, knowledge and a relentless desire to learn, grow and change. Education was paramount!
My driving force has always been about equity and recognising the efforts and contributions of those around me. There are so many people working equally hard who would/could not catch the breaks that came my way.
Strategic planning and education were ethical choices for making world better.
Everyone needs a champion, so I do what I can to champion others.
“Organisations are more successful when leadership and staff are diverse. Yet, discrimination is still systemic. While it has not always been easy, it is much harder for Indigenous people, trans people, people of colour, people with a disability. Diversity as a state of being must be achieved.”
