2024 WOMAN OF GOLD
Every time I step up into a leadership role whether it be as chair of a State Government Board or Director of a long running Truck Show, my heart races with anxiety and I wonder why I am putting myself in this position. Quite simply it is to demonstrate to subsequent generations of young men and women that they should not limit themselves to the well-intentioned but terribly biased advice they receive.
Growing up in a family earthmoving business I was privileged to learn many skills not offered in a school room. I didn’t like playing with dolls but I could take phone messages and drive a bulldozer when required. And yet it was my brothers who were offered the business. Today, when I step up on to a male dominated podium, I send positive vibes to all the young people in the audience. Play to your strengths whatever they are; not your gender.
“My dream is for all young people to be supported to pursue a business, career or passion based on their attributes and skills, not their gender.”
